Education Specialist California Teaching Performance Assessment (EdSp CalTPA)

At its June 2025 Meeting, the Commission approved the following passing standards for the redeveloped EdSp CalTPA (Version 01) for the Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN), Extensive Support Needs (ESN), Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and Visual Impairments (VI) credential areas:

• Math Cycle (8 rubrics): A final cut score of 16 points
• Literacy Cycle (8 rubrics): A final cut score of 16 points

Additionally, the Commission approved a secondary passing standard of 14 points for all EdSp CalTPA (Version 01) cycles. See PSA 25-08  for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: The following passing standards approved by the Commission at its June 2022 meeting will continue to apply to all MMSN and ESN (Version 07) cycles submitted during the 2025–26 program year (see PSA 22-10  for more information):

• MMSN Cycle 1 (8 rubrics): A final cut score of 17 points with one score of 1 allowed
• MMSN Cycle 2 (9 rubrics): A final cut score of 29 with one score of 1 allowed
• ESN Cycle 1 (8 rubrics): A final cut score of 15 points
• ESN Cycle 2 (9 rubrics): A final cut score of 17 points

Candidates who do not meet the requisite passing standards on one or both cycles may seek remedial support from their preparation programs and have the opportunity to retake the appropriate cycle(s) in accordance with the CalTPA Retake Policy .
